The EdStart 13-16 Alternative Provision operates from our DFE registered specialist independent schools in Wythenshawe and Broughton and offers a range of vocational courses designed for young people who find it difficult engaging in mainstream education. With vocational qualifications being offered our aim is to re-engage young people, creating opportunities which lead into further education or employment. Each pupil receives an individual learning plan and is supported throughout the training programme by our highly skilled teachers, learning mentors and youth workers. Courses range from entry level to level 2 and are recognised on the Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF). Learning programmes are personalised, giving the learner the greatest opportunity to achieve.
Our alternative provision fulfils the requirements of the various subjects and areas of learning for Year 10 and 11 learners, meeting the six areas of learning and offering a full and broad curriculum. Intensive Support Provision
Where young people are having difficulty accessing either mainstream or alternative provision, EdStart has specialist staff that can be flexible to the individuals needs. This may involve educating a young person from a base other than one of our centres but closer to their homes with short one to one sessions that focus on core subjects and investigate possible next steps in education, training or employment.
Rates are variable dependent on the level of support and need, and will be negotiated on an individual basis with the referring school or agency.
A Students Perspective
Each student will have an opportunity to develop an individual learning plan with their Learning Mentor or Teacher which they will follow throughout their time on the programme. Goals and Targets will be set for each young person and reviewed regularly to ensure progress is carefully monitored. Behaviour is measured and recorded each week using statistical analysis to track patterns of behaviour and set targets. All the above help us measure students progress from the date of admission, to the day they move on.
Half termly celebration events are held to recognise achievement. Young people receive awards for:
Students will have the opportunity to be taken on various rewards trips for good behaviour, classwork and / or attendance.
We offer a range of alternatives to suit both the young person and the referrer’s needs. Full time places or part time (part weekly or half daily) are offered. The referrer will book for a place and not a student, so if the young person stops attending for any reason they can be replaced by another.
