The EdStart 13-16 Programme is a specialist off-site alternative education provision curriculum offering a range of vocational courses designed for young people who find it difficult engaging in mainstream education. With an array of vocational courses and qualifications being offered our aim is to re-engage young people and create opportunities which lead into further education or employment. Each pupil receives an individual learning plan and is supported throughout the programme by our highly skilled tutors / trainers, learning mentors and youth workers.
Alternative Provision
We offer an array of courses from foundation learning to level 2 that are recognised on the Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF). Learning programmes are personalised, giving the learner the greatest opportunity to achieve. All students will have the opportunity to study and gain qualifications.
Programmes on offer include:
- Btec L1 Public Services (Award / Certificate)
- Btec 1st Public Services (L2 Certificate / Extended Certificate / Diploma)
- Btec L1 Sport and Active Leisure (Award / Certificate)
- Btec 1st in Sport (L2 Certificate / Extended Certificate / Diploma)
- Btec L1 Personal and Social Development (Award / Certificate)
- Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership
- Level 2 Sports Leadership Award
- ASDAN – Level 1 / 2 Adult Literacy
- ASDAN – Level 1 / 2 Adult Numeracy
- AQA Unit Award Scheme (various subject areas)
Our alternative provision aims to fulfill the requirements of the various areas of learning at Key Stages 3 and 4, meeting the six areas of learning and offering a full and broad curriculum. Functional skills in English, Maths and ICT are integrated into all courses as are additional qualifications such as PEARL which is aimed at developing and assessing young people’s social and personal skills.
A Students Perspective
Each student will have an opportunity to develop an individual learning plan with their Learning Mentor or Tutor which they will follow throughout their time on the programme. Goals and Targets will be set for each young person and reviewed regularly to ensure progress is carefully monitored.
Half termly celebration events are held to recognise achievement. Young people receive awards for:
- Attendance
- Behaviour
- Attainment
Students will have the opportunity to be taken on various rewards trips for good behaviour, classwork and / or attendance.
Referrals
We offer a range of alternatives to suit both the young person and the referrer’s needs. Full time places or part time (part weekly or half daily) are offered. The referrer will book for a place and not a student, so if the young person stops attending for any reason they can be replaced by another.
